MONA LISA SALOY was Louisiana Poet Laureate from 2021-2023. She is an author, folklorist, Louisiana Folklife Commissioner, and educator. A scholar of Creole culture, she has written articles, poems, and documentaries about Black New Orleans before and after Katrina. She is the Conrad N. Hilton Endowed Professor of English at Dillard University. Her poetry book Red Beans & Ricely Yours won the T.S. Eliot Prize and the PEN/Oakland Josephine Miles Award.
