John Warner Smith is current Poet Laureate of Louisiana. He has published four collections of poetry: Muhammad’s Mountain, published by Lavender Ink in 2018; Spirits of the Gods, published by UL Press in 2017; Soul Be A Witness, published by MadHat Press in 2016; and A Mandala of Hands, published by Kelsay Books-Aldrich Press in 2015. Smith’s fifth collection, Our Shut Eyes: New & Selected Poems on Race in America, is forthcoming. He is the winner of the 2019 Linda Hodge Bromberg Poetry Award and lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
