Hurricane Laura Recovery

The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) has received notice that President Joseph R. Biden has ordered the federal share for Public Assistance related to Hurricane Laura, including direct federal assistance, to be increased to 90 percent of the total eligible costs, except for assistance previously authorized at 100 percent.

Gov. John Bel Edwards sent a letter to U.S. Sec. of Commerce Wilbur Ross requesting a federal fishery disaster be declared due to the profound and continuing impacts of Hurricane Laura on Louisiana’s fishing communities. Such a declaration may help in obtaining federal financial assistance for our fishers, processors, docks, and for the state to help rehabilitate the important fishery species upon which our seafood industry relies.

FEMA has approved three additional Louisiana parishes for Individual Assistance following Hurricane Laura, bringing the total number of parishes where residents are eligible for aid to 21. The newly approved parishes are Caddo, La Salle and St. Landry.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that FEMA has approved an additional two Louisiana parishes for Individual Assistance following Hurricane Laura, bringing the total number of parishes where residents are eligible for aid to 18. The newly approved parishes are Union and Morehouse.

Edwards announces that FEMA has approved an additional seven Louisiana parishes for Individual Assistance following Hurricane Laura, bringing the total number of parishes where residents are eligible for aid to 16. The newly approved parishes are Rapides, Natchitoches, Sabine, Winn, Grant, Jackson and Lincoln.

Edwards announced today that FEMA approved his request for Individual Assistance for those in Acadia, Ouachita and Vermilion parishes that suffered damage in Hurricane Laura. This brings the total of approved parishes to nine; the governor’s request for another 14 parishes is still pending federal approval.

President Donald Trump has approved Gov. John Bel Edwards’ request for a major disaster declaration following Hurricane Laura, the state learned Friday evening. More details about the approval and how to access aid will be forthcoming.

People who sustained losses in Hurricane Laura in the designated parishes of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis can begin applying for assistance today by registering online at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.

Vernon Parish has been approved for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) and Debris Removal following Hurricane Laura, bringing the number of parishes where people can register for federal assistance to six, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Sunday.

In a letter to President Donald Trump, Gov. John Bel Edwards today requested a major disaster declaration for 23 parishes in Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Laura which, if approved, would bring FEMA assistance to affected individuals and communities. At least ten people have died in Louisiana following the storm, with many thousands more suffering damage to their homes and businesses.
