Arranges outside communication for prisoners, which may include pen pal, visitation, and more. Send an SASE with your name, prisoner ID, and mailing address to be placed on a waiting list. No fee, not faith-based but tries to match requests for spiritual connection.

Since September 2003, LostVault has been dedicated to maintaining a free place for inmates to find pen pals, and for you to find them. Unlike many of the other prison pen pal sites, we do not charge you OR the inmate this service as long as the ad is posted via the internet by a loved one or friend. For ads posted by our staff, there is a nominal $5 fee for all inmates other than death row, who receive free ads.

We were originally established as an organization to help prison pen-pals receive letters from free world pen-pals. Inmates pay a nominal membership fee (that has never increased) for their prisoner pen-pal postings. This is invested back into providing free programs never offered before aimed at reducing crime and recidivism.

Inside Books Project is an Austin-based community service volunteer organization that sends free books and educational materials to prisoners in Texas. Inside Books is the only books-to-prisoners program in Texas. Inside Books Project offers a Resource Guide with helpful resources targeted to inmates and their loved ones. The IBP Resource Guide is available below in downloadable PDF form. There are pen pal opportunities in this guide.

National Prisoner Resource List (NPRL) provides information about places where prisoners and their families can find:

-Advocacy
-Health care information (including HIV protection)
-Outlets for their creativity.
-Lifelines to the outside community.

The NPRL is sent to prisoners upon request. There is no charge for it.
