Kelly Harris-DeBerry is a writer and teacher. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. She has received fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and Cave Canem. Some of her other publishing credits include: Torch Literary Magazine, The National Parks Service Centennial Commemoration publication with Sonia Sanchez, Yale University's Caduceus Journal, Southern Review, Say it Loud: Poems for James Brown and many more. Her podcast for About Place Journal called, "Congo Square: Sustaining the Sacred Post-Katrina" highlights her talents as a producer and researcher. In 2017, she presented "Black Love: A Sustaining Force Post-Katrina" at the national Black Love symposium celebrating the 80th anniversary of Their Eyes Were Watching God.
Kelly is a former guest poetry editor for Bayou Magazine at the University of New Orleans and has served her literary community on various community boards. Kelly served as the New Orleans Literary Coordinator for Poets & Writers Inc. for its United States of Writing Initiative to support writers in New Orleans and surrounding parishes for two years.
