State Library Administrative Agencies
A state library agency is the official agency of a state that is charged by state law with the extension and development of public library services throughout the state and that has adequate authority under state law to administer state plans in accordance with the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).The State Library Administrative Agencies (SLAA) Survey, formerly the State Library Agency (StLA), provides information about the state library agencies in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The SLAA may function as the state's public library at large, providing service to the general public and state government employees.
The survey is conducted by the Institute of Museum and Library Services [IMLS] . The State Library Administrative Agency (SLAA) Survey is biennial. Prior year surveys, FY 1994 - FY 2010, were annual.
Data from the survey is on the IMLS web site for the years 1994 - 2018.
Please note that the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) conducted the FY2005 and earlier State Library Agencies Surveys and produced the data files.
